The Andrews Research & Education Foundation (AREF) Bioskills Laboratory provides space and services for physicians and medical professionals to experience hands-on training in the latest surgical techniques and orthopaedic devices. Conveniently located on site with the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, the Bioskills Lab is an integral cornerstone of AREF’s education programs, fellowship program, and research studies conducted by the Andrews Institute physicians. With the ability to stream live broadcasts to on-site classrooms, the Bioskills Lab further enhances didactic sessions and continuing education conferences facilitated on the AREF campus.

Renovated in 2016, the 2,000 square feet of surgical skills lab offers ample space to conduct procedures and device testing with the ability to accommodate groups of all sizes. The lab features full arthroscopic capabilities at five stations, mobile work stations equipped with cadaver stands and hardware, a walk in freezer for specimen storage, an Instron machine for device testing, and C-arm capabilities for imaging purposes. For client’s convenience, AREF offers specimen ordering and waste disposal, specimen staging, an assistant during labs, and clean up that includes a steam sterilizer for utensils. The lab is open to all surgical disciplines, and is available Monday through Friday morning or evening. To further supplement events, AREF offers catering services through Legends Café for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and/or snacks.

It is AREF’s goal to ensure that all of our client’s needs and expectations are fulfilled to facilitate a professional and enjoyable learning experience. If you are interested in hosting a lab or event at AREF, please contact Drew Skidmore, Lab Manager, using the information provided below.
